Sitamarhi, the birthplace of Goddess Sita, is well connected to the rest of India by rail, road and air.

By Train: Sitamarhi Junction sits on the Raxaul-Darbhanga line of East Central Railway, about 3 km from the town centre. The Sitamahal Express and Gandak Express serve the route, and direct trains also connect Sitamarhi to New Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur and Mumbai.

By Bus: Regular private and BSRTC buses connect Sitamarhi to Patna (about 139 km, 4 hours, fares roughly Rs 155-180), Muzaffarpur (1.5 hours) and Darbhanga (2.5 hours). Both AC and non-AC coaches operate through the day.

By Air: The nearest airport is Darbhanga Airport (about 85 km). Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna (about 139 km) and Gaya International Airport (about 236 km) offer wider domestic and international connections.

Getting Around: Once in Sitamarhi, cycle-rickshaws, autos and e-rickshaws easily cover the town's main sites — Janki Mandir, Janki Kund and Haleshwar Sthan are all within a few kilometres of the railway station, while Punaura Dham is a short drive further out.
