Haleshwar Sthan is an ancient Shiva temple in Sitamarhi. The name comes from Hal (plough) and Ishwar (God), referring to Lord Shiva who blessed King Janak. Especially crowded during Maha Shivratri when devotees observe fast and offer prayers throughout the night.
हलेश्वर स्थान सीतामढ़ी का प्राचीन शिव मंदिर है। हलेश्वर नाम "हल" और "ईश्वर" से बना है। महाशिवरात्रि पर यहाँ भारी भीड़ होती है।
Local legend holds that Lord Shiva blessed King Janak at this very spot during the ploughing (hal) ceremony in which baby Sita was found — hence "Haleshwarnath", uniting Hal (plough) and Ishwar (God). It remains one of the principal Shiva shrines of Sitamarhi, especially crowded during Maha Shivratri.
2 km from Sitamarhi Railway Station, 1.5 km from Bus Stand. Easily reached by cycle-rickshaw or auto from the town centre.
