Sursand was the historic capital of the Sursand Raj and carries ruins of the Sursandgarh fort from the Mughal period. Its most notable landmark is the Choraut Mandir, an ancient temple standing near the locally famous Budhwa Pokhair pond; the 18th-century Swarna Rani Mandir, built by then-queen Rajvanshi Kunwar of the Sursand Raj, is also known for its carved pillars.
About 35 km north of Sitamarhi town; connected by regular bus services.
